We, the Conservative Friends of Ukraine, strongly condemn the indiscriminate missile attacks on Ukraine’s major cities.
In the largest attack of its kind since the invasion began, over 80 Russian missiles have fallen on centres of culture and education, including a children’s playground, as well as on energy and transport infrastructure.
These cowardly attacks have the sole goal of killing civilians and terrorising the Ukrainian population. Such horrific and indiscriminate targeting of civilians is a war crime and constitutes an act of terror. These attacks will only weld the Ukrainian people together and strengthen their resolve to liberate their land.
Today’s attack marks a profound and unacceptable escalation of Russia’s war of aggression. We note with concern President Lukashenko's intention to deepen military integration with Russia and potentially deploy troops together. These are desperate acts by Putin who is losing the war on the ground.
Our Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has promised resolute action in response to these barbaric attacks and will be holding urgent talks with G7 leaders later today. As the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Mr Reznikov has stated today, the key objective now must be to protect the skies over Ukraine.
As Putin escalates the bombardment of Ukraine, we must show that the UK, together with our allies, stand with the people of Ukraine.
